Pine Creek Composite Deck with Shed Roof Deck Cover & Patio Heater
A Modern, Low-Maintenance Deck Upgrade for a Pine Creek Home
Our clients in the Pine Creek neighborhood loved spending time outside but felt limited by their original builder-grade redwood deck. The deck was small, weathered, and required on-going maintenance that no longer fit their lifestyle. They reached out to Decks by Schmillen seeking a larger, low-maintenance, and more modern outdoor living space – one that would function beautifully year-round and complement their home’s architecture.
Designing a Larger, More Functional Deck Layout
During the design phase, we explored ways to maximize the usable space while improving traffic flow and sightlines. The final layout features a 294 SF composite deck, offering significantly more room for outdoor seating, dining, and everyday enjoyment. This expanded footprint provides a more open, comfortable environment while maintaining a clean, cohesive look with the home.
Deckorators Vista Ironwood: Beauty, Durability, and Easy Maintenance
For the decking material, the homeowners selected Deckorators Vista Ironwood, a composite known for its rich color variation, realistic woodgrain, and long-lasting durability. Its low-maintenance nature was a major benefit for the clients, who wanted a deck that would stay beautiful without frequent staining or upkeep. To complete the polished appearance, the deck includes:
- Double end boards, adding a crisp, contemporary finish
- Tight, clean lines that complement the modern style
- Materials designed to resist fading, moisture, and weathering
This decking choice ensures the new outdoor space will look stunning for years with minimal effort from the homeowners.
Modern, Reliable Steel Deck Railing for Safety and Style
Safety and visual appeal were two leading priorities when selecting the railing system. We installed a Fortress Fe26 Traditional powder-coated steel deck railing, known for its structural strength and sleek profile. The 3-inch posts, paired with flat pyramid post caps, create a clean modern aesthetic that ties seamlessly into the overall design. The railing provides unobstructed views while ensuring durability and long-term reliability.
Expanding Comfort with a Custom 14′ x 21′ Shed Roof Deck Cover
Colorado’s weather can be unpredictable – from intense sunshine to cool afternoons and windy evenings – so our clients wanted an outdoor space they could enjoy throughout the year. To achieve this, we designed and built a 14′ x 21′ shed roof-style deck cover that feels and looks like a natural extension of the home.
The flat ceiling is finished in WoodTone’s Canadian Ice Lager tongue-and-groove, a gorgeous material that blends warmth, texture, and modern character. This ceiling selection adds both visual interest and a cozy feel to the space.
Integrated Heating and Lighting
To ensure comfort and convenience in any season, the deck cover includes:
- Four recessed can lights for soft, even illumination
- A Bromic Tungsten electric patio heater, allowing the space to stay warm on cool days and crisp Colorado evenings.
These features make the covered area functional as an outdoor dining room, lounge, or gathering space no matter the temperature.
A Beautiful, Year-Round Outdoor Living Retreat
The completed project transforms the home’s backyard into a stylish, comfortable, and highly functional outdoor retreat. The combination of composite decking, steel deck railing, and a custom deck cover gives the homeowners the modern, low-maintenance space they envisioned – one that can truly be enjoyed in every season.
