Luxurious Outdoor Living Space Created in Black Forest
Transforming an Aging Deck into a True Outdoor Retreat
Our clients in Black Forest had an aging, unsafe deck that no longer allowed them to relax outside in the beautiful Colorado weather. They wanted a beautiful, functional replacement they could enjoy for years to come.
Working together through the design and planning phase, we created a spacious, multi-zone outdoor living space focused on comfort, durability, and timeless style.
930-Square Foot Composite Deck with Multiple Gathering Areas
The transformation began with the removal of the old structure and the construction of a new 930 SF composite deck. The layout was designed to provide several distinct areas for relaxing, dining, and entertaining – perfect for taking advantage of Colorado’s ever-changing seasons.
The highlights of the deck include a 16′ x 21′ gabled deck cover along with a 364 SF rough-sawn Cedar pergola. Together, these structures create shade, definition, and visual interest across the entire outdoor living area.
Deckorators Voyage Mesa Composite Decking for Long-Term Performance
For the decking material, the homeowners selected Deckorators Voyage Mesa composite decking. This high-performance material offers excellent durability, slip resistance, and low maintenance – ideal for Colorado’s sun, snow, and temperature swings.
We finished the deck with end boards for a more polished look and also added divider boards eliminating traditional butt seams. These details not only enhance the aesthetics but also contribute to long-term performance.
Fortress Fe26 Steel Deck Railing for Safety and Style
Safety and style were both key priorities. To frame the deck without blocking the view of their beautiful backyard, we installed a Fortress Fe26 Traditional powder-coated steel deck railing. Known for its strength and durability, this railing provides a sleek, modern profile that complements the deck’s design while keeping the focus on the surrounding landscape.
Gabled Deck Cover with Warm, Tongue-and-Groove Ceiling
The central feature of this project is the 16′ x 21′ gabled deck cover. It includes a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling finished in Texas Honey Brown from WoodTone, adding warmth, richness and architectural character to the space.
To ensure the cover looked like it was always part of the home, we installed roof tiles that match the existing house. This seamless integration creates a cohesive, original-to-the-home appearance that enhances both curb appeal and property value.
Custom Rough-Sawn Cedar Pergola on Stone Columns
Another standout element is the custom rough-sawn cedar pergola. Rather than starting from scratch, we securely anchored the pergola to the new stone columns, making smart use of the original structure while elevating the overall design.
The pergola was finished with two applications of Sikkens Mahogany semi-transparent stain, which brings out the natural grain and depth of the cedar while providing protection against the elements. The result is a warm, inviting focal point that feels both substantial and refined.
A Colorado Outdoor Living Space Built to Last
From the composite decking and steel railing to the gabled cover and stained cedar pergola, every detail of this project was chosen with longevity and everyday comfort in mind.
The result is a truly stunning Colorado outdoor living space – perfect for entertaining guests, hosting family gatherings, or simply relaxing with a cup of coffee. This is a deck the homeowners will enjoy for many years to come.
