Our clients in Monument, Colorado wanted a comfortable space to unwind by their tranquil pond – an outdoor area that felt calm, shaded, and naturally connected to the landscape. Their goal was simple: create a dedicated place to relax, cool off in the summer sun, and enjoy the peaceful views that make Colorado outdoor living so special.
A cedar pergola was the perfect solution. It provides relief from direct sunlight, adds structure to the yard, and creates a welcoming destination that feels intentional without closing in the open-air experience.
Shade, Comfort, and a Natural Connection to the Landscape
From the beginning, the homeowners had a clear vision for how they wanted to use the space. They wanted the pergola to:

After meeting with the homeowners to review ideas and layout options, our team designed a custom cedar pergola tailored to their vision. We carefully planned the structure to feel harmonious with the surrounding landscape while still creating a strong architectural focal point near the pond.
Cedar was a natural choice for this project. It offers a warm, timeless look, works beautifully in outdoor environments, and pairs perfectly with water features and greenery.
A Warm, Dark Stain that Complements the Backyard Setting
To finish the pergola, our clients chose a dark, warm custom stain that brings out cedar’s natural character and adds a rich, welcoming tone. The deeper color creates a beautiful contrast against the green landscape while still feeling natural and grounded – especially next to the reflective surface of the pond.
The Result – A Peaceful, Shaded Outdoor Living Space
The finished pergola exceeded and elevated the entire outdoor experience. Instead of an open area that felt exposed, the owners now have a shaded retreat designed specifically for slowing down, relaxing, and enjoying the serenity of the pond.
