Outdoor Living with a Custom Redwood Deck and Deck Cover

Transforming a Small, Outdated Deck into a Modern Retreat

When the homeowners purchased their home, it came with a small, outdated deck that didn’t meet their lifestyle needs.  They wanted a true outdoor living area where they could relax and entertain comfortably.  That’s when the contacted Decks by Schmillen to help bring their vision to life.

Premium Redwood Decking for a Natural Look

After discussing the many design and material options available, our clients decided on B-Grade Redwood – a higher-quality choice with fewer knots and a lighter, more refined color than common redwood.  To ensure a seamless look, our team incorporated double divider boards to eliminate butt seams and enhance the deck’s finished appearance.

Gabled Deck Cover with Vaulted Ceiling

To provide shade and comfort throughout the day, we designed and built a gabled deck cover featuring a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling with recessed lighting.  The combination of craftsmanship and lighting creates a warm, inviting atmosphere that extends the homeowners’ enjoyment of their space into the evening hours.

Sleek and Modern Railing Design

For safety and modern appeal, the railing system includes redwood posts and a matching drink cap, paired with horizontal stainless-steel cables.  This design offers an unobstructed view of the yard while maintaining a sophisticated, contemporary aesthetic.

Convenient Access to the Backyard

We also built two six-foot wide closed-step sets of deck stairs – one at each end of the deck – for easy access to the backyard.  These wide stairs not only improve functionality but also balance the deck’s overall design.

A Space to Enjoy All Summer Long

With its blend of natural materials, durable construction, and thoughtful design, this custom redwood deck and gabled deck cover provide the perfect outdoor living space for summer gatherings, morning coffee, or relaxing evenings under the lights.
