Cozy Outdoor Living Space with Glass Windbreaks in Banning Lewis Ranch

Creating a More Comfortable Outdoor Living Space

Our client in Banning Lewis Ranch loved spending time on her covered deck and wanted to utilize the patio below – but Colorado’s strong, persistent winds often made both spaces uncomfortable and underused.  Wanting to enjoy her outdoor spaces throughout more of the year, she reached out to Decks by Schmillen for a long-term, effective solution.

Custom Glass Windbreak Design & Structural Reinforcement

The home’s orientation exposed both the upper deck and lower patio to frequent gusts coming off the plains.  Even with a cover on part of the deck, the wind often made sitting outside difficult.  Traditional railing-height solutions weren’t enough, and the homeowner wanted something modern, durable, and visually unobtrusive.

Working together, we designed a system of sleek, modern glass windbreaks installed at both ends of the upper deck as well as at both ends of the lower patio.  To ensure safety and long-term performance, our team reinforced the south-side framing of the deck before the glass installation.  This reinforcement allowed us to securely mount the glass brackets while guaranteeing the stability during high-wind conditions.

The result is a clean, contemporary look that complements the home while dramatically increasing comfort.

A More Enjoyable Space – All Year Long

Now that the windbreaks are in place, our client is thrilled with the transformation.  Her deck and patio are more comfortable, functional, and protected than ever before, allowing her to enjoy the Colorado outdoors without worrying about strong wind gusts.

Whether relaxing with a book, hosting friends, or simply taking in her backyard views, she now has two cozy outdoor living spaces she can use far more often!
