Fountain Valley Composite Deck: A Covered Outdoor Living Retreat

A small deck can limit how much you enjoy your backyard.  For these Fountain Valley homeowners, the original 8-by-12-foot redwood deck offered just 96 square feet – too little space for comfortable seating, entertaining, or gathering with family and friends.

This project transformed their small, builder-grade deck into a spacious outdoor living retreat.  With a 360-square-foot composite deck, a custom shed-roof style deck cover, and an additional 260 square feet of concrete patio space, our clients now have room to relax, entertain, and enjoy their backyard.

From a Small Redwood Deck to a Spacious Outdoor Living Retreat

The original 8-by-12-foot redwood deck was built with the home and provided just 96 square feet of outdoor space.  It didn’t offer enough room for comfortable seating or entertaining.

After exploring projects, styles, and options on our website, the homeowners worked with us to design a deck replacement that better fit their lifestyle.

Deckorators Voyage Sedona Decking and Steel Deck Railing

Our crew removed the old deck and built a new composite deck nearly four time its size, giving the homeowners more room to relax and host guests.

The homeowners selected Deckorators Voyage decking in Sedona for their new deck.  Single end boards and strategically placed divider boards create a clean, finished appearance.

A Fortress Fe26 powder-coated steel deck railing complements the decking with a sleek, modern look.  Together, these materials give the expanded outdoor living space a warm coordinated finish.

A Custom Shed-Roof Deck Cover

A custom shed-roof style deck cover helps make the new deck a more comfortable place to spend time outdoors.  The closed, vaulted ceiling features WoodTone tongue-and-groove in Texas Honey Brown, adding warmth and character overhead.

We matched the soffit and fascia to the home’s existing colors, creating a covered deck that feels like a natural extension to the house.

Carefully Built Stairs and an Expanded Concrete Patio

Thirteen 4-foot-wide closed stairs connect the deck to the backyard below.  We used PWT-treated LVL stair stringers instead of traditional 2-by-12 lumber for added strength and stability.

Our clients also extended their concrete patio to match the new deck’s footprint.  This added 260 square feet of usable patio space below, completing the outdoor living space transformation.

An Outdoor Living Retreat Designed Around the Homeowners

This Fountain Valley deck replacement changed how our clients can use their backyard.  What began as a small, original redwood deck is now a spacious backyard retreat designed around the homeowners’ everyday lives.  The larger deck provides room to gather, the overhead cover creates a more inviting setting, and the expanded patio adds another area to enjoy.

Thoughtful design, coordinated finishes, and careful construction brought the project together.  Our clients are thrilled with their finished backyard retreat and look forward to hosting family and friends.
