Founder and Owner, Doug Schmillen was born and raised in Northwest Iowa on a family farm where values, integrity, and religion were a way of life. Principles that are still as much apart of his life today as his business practices. In 1979 Doug moved to Colorado Springs with a great base to start his future. Armed with the knowledge instilled on his own working farm, a true American small business, and a passion for woodworking for many years, Doug founded Decks by Schmillen.
In 2005 Doug’s son Keith joined the Decks by Schmillen team. Since then the company has grown to operate two divisions – New Decks, spearheaded by Keith and Restoration, overseen by Doug. The father/son duo have been creating custom wood and composite decks, outdoor living rooms, and everything in between.
